By now, you probably have heard about the amazing Bocas del Toro in Panama. Maybe a couple of your friends have traveled there in past vacations. That got you here, looking for information in order to make up your mind on whether include or not Bocas del Toro as part of your next vacation itinerary. Short answer: Yes, you should definitely include it and in this post, we will let you know everything necessary for your upcoming trip.
Hot to get around?
Once you get there the two best ways to move around are by bicycle or by water taxi. Renting a bike normally costs around 8$ a day and is very recommended, since the island is very flat. Water taxi usually costs around 6$ in the most extreme case.
Where to stay?
One of the most popular accommodations on the island are the bungalows, there´s several you can choose. Some of the most popular places are La Loma Jungle Lodge, Palmar Beach Lodge, Tropical Suites Hotel, Popa Paradise Beach Resort, and many more.
Where to eat?
Bocas del Toro has a mix of the most important gastronomies in the world. Here you can find places with Italian, Japanese, Mexican, American, European and local, which will give an extremely satisfying experience.
Azul Restaurant is one of the best in town. Almost 100% of the visitors would rate it 10 stars (of 5), which is simply that good. If you are looking for an excellent vegetarian option, Om Café is one of the choices available on the island.
If you like to try the local cuisine mixed with local ingredients (grown locally) you must stop by La Loma Jungle Lodge and Chocolate Farm. Here local chefs will offer you a very interesting option for you to have an excellent meal.
What to do?
The easiest way to enjoy yourself during your stay in Bocas del Toro is to become a “beach bum”. Just stay on the beach, watch your surroundings and enjoy the breeze and the ocean. Simple, but very effective.
Visit the Basti Bat Caves. The bat caves on Isla Bastimentos are a fun and exciting day trip. On the boat ride to the caves, we even saw a few sloths! I went with Milton, a local guide dedicated to the conservation of the caves. It´s an amazing way to seclude yourself from the world for a while.
