It´s a beach destination obviously is going to be hot. So heat and a beating sun are pretty much guaranteed during your stay in Bocas del Toro. However, you must keep in mind the humidity, which in this part of Panama is pretty damn high, which can alter your temperature perception. The rainy season is from May to November. During this season you can expect strong rains and electric storms more frequently. Generally, this happens in the afternoon and in night. But this doesn’t mean necessarily that it´s a bad time to travel. It has its advantages: fewer tourists and the rains keep everything nice and green.
Here´s a list of items you must bring to your trip:
- Short sleeve t-shirts. Quick-dry ones are recommended.
- Long sleeve shirts. It will protect you from the sun or hiking through higher elevation forests.
- Dress shirts.
- Quick-dry shorts (they are essential).
- Casual dress pants. Maybe a pair, just in case you want to go to a formal party or a fancy place.
- Long pants for hiking.
- Underwear, as much as you can possibly pack. Its better be safe than sorry.
- Socks, the low cute ones are the most recommended.
- A hat or a cap to protect your head and face from the sun.
- Always pack a nylon bag for dirty or wet clothes, it´s really lifesaving.
- Your pajamas. You shouldn’t go anywhere without them.
- Hiking or walking shoes, depending on the level of adventure you would like to add to your vacation.
- Sandals or flip flops.
- Dress sandals. They are the ones you are not going to fill with sand from the beach.
Healthcare and basic First Aid
- Any prescription medicine you are currently using.
- In case you use it, prescription glasses. It´s important to see right?
- Sunglasses. We cannot stress enough how much these ones are required in Bocas del Toro.
- Sunscreen (the waterproof kind), at least SPF20.
- Aspirin, Ibuprofen, Acetaminophen and any kind of pain reliever or fever reducers.
There are also several items you must not forget to bring in your backpack to your travel in Bocas del Toro, such as camera, water bottle, binoculars, flashlight, mp3 players, headphones, cell phone (unlocked preferable, in order to use a SIM card from a Panama operator). Also a book it´s recommended.
As for documents, we recommend you bring your passport and copy of it (that´s the one you should be carrying around with you), your driver’s license, money (dollars are accepted everywhere) and your insurance information.
