Having to travel on a budget doesn’t necessary means that the quality of your experience will decrease. On the opposite. We have been all in the position that we need to stay on a budget. That´s why we would like to share with you these tips to save money during your stay in Bocas del Toro.
Pick your travel for low season
The perfect date to travel to Panama is in early December. It is just after the rainy season and just a couple of weeks before the high season, so the rates everywhere won´t be at their highest. It´s also not so crowded, more room for you is not something to complain about.
Bring your sunscreen and some food
In Panama, and especially in touristic areas, sunscreen is crazy expensive, so if you can bring your own sunscreen it will be better. Food specking, if you can bring protein bars or protein powder it will be better since it’s very expensive there.
Exchange enough cash
Touristic places generally accept US Dollars, but there are places that don´t accept credit cards. However, small business tends to list their prices in the local currency and the converted prices (which is usually higher than the normal exchange rate). It is not that big of a deal, since the local currency is tied with our dollar, so there´s nothing to worry about there.
On eating terms try to stay out of the beach
However delicious, the food gets cheaper as close to the beach you are. So if you want to stay on a budget we highly recommend avoiding the restaurants on the beach.
Always bargain with your tour guide
Outside the park, you will find lots of guides (very good ones too) that can give you an amazing experience. If you bring a big group then you will have more tools for getting a better price, since the price is charged by how many people are taking the tour.
Compare prices and walk around the islands, you will find some fine deals if you looked them very good. Remember, that the most amazing things you can experience in these islands are mostly free, and those are the memories that you will take with you back home. Have a great trip to Bocas del Toro!
